Azimuth PRO Enters the URKL: We Are Building a Fighting Robot

Azimuth PRO announces its entry into the Ultimate Robot Knock-out Legend. BASILISK, our EngineAI T800 unit, debuts publicly in Q1 2027 and competes in Season 2.

Timeline marking the URKL season one opening, the Azimuth PRO entry, the Q1 2027 reveal and the season two debut

EUROPE, 17 July 2026 - One day after the Ultimate Robot Knock-out Legend opened its inaugural season in Shenzhen, we are announcing our own entry: Azimuth PRO will field a fully autonomous humanoid robot, designation BASILISK, in URKL Season 2.

What we announced

  • The program. Azimuth PRO is a challenger team built around one machine and four software disciplines: motion control, balance under impact, perception, and autonomous tactics.
  • The platform. BASILISK is a standard EngineAI T800 - the identical hardware every URKL team fields: 1.73 m, 75-85 kg, 25 degrees of freedom, actuators peaking at 450 Nm, 360° LiDAR and stereo cameras. League rules prohibit hardware modifications. The competition is software, and that is precisely why we entered.
  • The timeline. Public presentation of BASILISK is planned for Q1 2027 in Europe - a live balance and motion demonstration with full telemetry on screen. Our competitive debut follows at the start of Season 2, in mid-2027.

Why we are doing this

Last night in Shenzhen, a robot named Matador lost its head-mounted sensor unit to a roundhouse kick - and kept fighting, because its control systems live in the torso. That moment says everything about where embodied AI is in 2026: the machines are no longer fragile lab demos. They absorb hits, recover balance, and make decisions at full speed with no human in the loop.

Full-contact competition is the harshest benchmark available for the capabilities that matter outside the ring - disaster response, heavy logistics, any environment that pushes back. Like the DARPA challenges that accelerated autonomous driving, URKL exists to compress a decade of engineering into a few seasons. We want Azimuth PRO - and Europe - on that grid.

Watching Season 1

We will not fight in Season 1. We will study it. Every fight in Shenzhen is telemetry for the sport we are joining: 32 teams, including groups from Stanford, UC Berkeley, Tsinghua, Zhejiang University, and the University of Hong Kong, all running different software on identical bodies. There is no better dataset in robotics right now.

The league calendar, results, and every Azimuth PRO milestone are tracked in our Fight Center. Engineering notes will land here on the blog.
